The Covid-19 Crisis

This crisis affects us all, but it affects us each differently. For some of us, it’s the fear of being infected and knowing that we are vulnerable. For some of us, it’s worrying about a sick loved one. For folks like healthcare workers and grocery store clerks, it's extra hours every day, with the stress of knowing that they are risking infection not only themselves, but for their families at home. For some of us, it’s the uncertainty of how our business will get through this. For others, it’s the knowing we have to stay home from work when we know we have bills to pay.

I’ve heard from many people with different variations of each of these stories. And one thing that stands out is that we are in this together. I have been impressed over and over again by how people have stepped up to buy groceries for their vulnerable neighbors, to sew masks for each other and to support our food banks. We have all responded quickly to make major changes in our lives because we knew we had to to protect each other.

Thank you. Together we are making a difference.

I’m committed to using my office to get information out to the community, and to make sure our community’s voices and needs are heard. In this time, I’m particularly focused on connecting with community leaders, business associations, and folks working on the front lines of the crisis. I’ve worked with other legislators to hold regular public events so that people in the 40th district have a way to stay in touch.

In this time it’s important that we rely on the best information available. I urge people to keep an eye on https://coronavirus.wa.gov for official updates and information.
