State Rep. Ramel’s Re-Election Campaign Announces Strong Support From Washington Unions
BELLINGHAM, WA — Six labor unions, together representing more than 150,000 Washington workers, have offered early, exclusive endorsement of WA state Rep. Alex Ramel’s run for reelection in the 40th District. While many organizations wait to endorse until after candidate filing the week of May 16, early endorsement by these unions shows enthusiastic support for Rep. Ramel from Washington’s workers.
Supporting unions represent Washington state employees (AFSME Council 28), nurses (WSNA) and healthcare workers (SEIU 1199NW), long-term care workers (SEIU 775), education professionals (AFT), and aerospace machinists (IAM 751).
“Many of these workers have been essential to our health, our children, and our economy throughout the pandemic and our economic recovery, and I am committed to standing with them to ensure safe working conditions, fair benefits, and strong unions,” said state Rep. Ramel.
Ramel has maintained a 100% lifetime voting record with Washington State Labor Council.
“SEIU 775 is proud to endorse Alex Ramel. His vision and leadership align with our vision for a just and humane world where government works to better the lives of all workers, including caregivers, seniors, and people with disabilities,” said Adam Glickman, Secretary Treasurer for SEIU 775.
Karen Strickland, AFT Washington President, said "The American Federation of Teachers of Washington advocates for safe, welcoming, and thriving neighborhoods and schools for every student. We want all students to have access to the high-quality, affordable higher education, professional-technical programs, and apprenticeship opportunities that help them succeed. State Rep. Alex Ramel supports living wage jobs and has been and will continue to be a crucial partner in achieving that vision for Washingtonians’ future. We are excited to work for his reelection."
Alex Ramel was appointed in January of 2020 to finish a partial term when his predecessor retired. That November, he was returned by the voters of the 40th district with over 68% of the vote. The 40th district includes southwest Whatcom County, northwest Skagit County and all of San Juan County, including parts of Bellingham, Burlington, and Mount Vernon, as well as all of Friday Harbor and Anacortes.
